The National Basketball Association and the Sacramento Kings have launched a joint investigation into sexual assault allegations against Luke Walton, who was recently hired by the Kings to be their new head coach.
"The Kings and the NBA take these allegations very seriously and will collaborate to conduct a complete and thorough investigation,"they said in a joint statement.
One week after the Kings announced they had signed Walton to a four-year contract, he was accused of sexual assault in a lawsuit filed by Kelli Tennant. She claims that Walton sexually assaulted her in a hotel room in 2014 and continued to engage in inappropriate behavior until 2017.
Walton's attorney, Mark Baute, issued a statement denying the "baseless" allegations, calling Tennant an "opportunist" whose claims are "not credible."
