Why the New England Patriots Can Get Away With Underpaying Tom Brady

Peter Schrager: “We can talk Bill Belichick’s mastery of defense and offense, and managing personnel, and we can talk about Brady too… But the REAL advantage that New England has is the relationship between Tom Brady and Robert Kraft. Brady will not break the bank every time. This is a long term relationship that will go well beyond football. The Kraft family is as tight with Brady as any owner is to a player maybe in the history of the sport. I don’t think anything happened here is nefarious, that is exactly what is he is making, I’m just saying Brady might be in business with the Kraft family in some way for the next 40 years of his life.”

Listen to Fox Sports NFL insider Peter Schrager explain to Colin Cowherd why he thinks perhaps the biggest advantage the New England Patriots have had over the rest of the NFL during their nearly two-decade long dynasty is the close relationship between their owner Robert Kraft and their superstar starting quarterback Tom Brady.

Check out the audio below as Shrager details why the Patriots can get away with vastly underpaying Brady, with Brady knowing in the back of his mind that he’s going to be in business with the lucrative Kraft family for the rest of his life, and that saving money to better help build the roster is the better short term investment for the time being.
