The Cleveland Browns should be accustomed making the headlines every week for embarrassing and often pitiful reasons, but their latest stint in the news is far more dark and disturbing.
Browns safety Jermaine Whitehead went nuclear on Twitter after Cleveland’s 19-26 loss at Denver’s Mile High Stadium that has now pushed the Browns five games back of the first place Baltimore Ravens in an AFC North division that many pundits had predicted was Cleveland’s for the taking.
The bizarre cyber meltdown happened when ESPN’s Dustin Fox, a former Ohio State Buckeyes player and Ohio native who had a brief stint in the NFL, tweeted “Whitehead’s effort tackling today is a joke”.
Whitehead quickly took notice to the tweet and responded to Fox’s tweet, saying “Come and get it in blood b**** made a** lil boy. I’m out here with a broke hand… don’t get smoked f** a** c******.”
After a fan then mentioned Whitehead’s botched role in a series of huge plays to Broncos tight end Noah Fant, including a 75-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Allen, Whitehead once again went nuclear, responding “Don’t get shot at lil b****… Can you whoop my a**? F*** football… let me know when you need the address.”
Then after another fan mocked Whitehead’s uncannily racist and violent rants, Whitehead straight up tweeted "Imma kill you b****.. that’s on blood" and then told the fan to meet him at Whitehead’s actual address, 80 Lou Groza Blvd, Berea Ohio, 44017, before adding "Any f***** day of the week?? C******.”
Whitehead was released Monday morning after the profanity-laced and racially charged tirade on Sunday night, with a Browns spokesperson issuing this statement:
“Jermaine Whitehead’s social media posts following today’s game were totally unacceptable and highly inappropriate.”
Whitehead’s Twitter account was suspended moments after the tweets, and he was not available to talk to media members after the game either.
Whitehead would take to Instagram and issue a statement that people figured was going to be an apology for his vicious tweets, but he only apologized for his poor play on the field, and then went so far to appear to blame the media and fans alike for his unprecedented reaction.
“Crazy world. They line it up and say anything in the book too you. They tell you take the high road, when yo whole life you was taught to meet fire with fire. I do apologize for my performance, but having broke my hand and a strong fear of letting my team down is my downfall. Whatever happens happens. Ain’t trippin. They probably gone still talk crazy but this me getting smoke off my chest. I don’t need one like… this from me to me! Keep ya head up homie, can’t nobody F*** with you. I dare em to try.”
The Instagram post was later deleted.
Brown had spent four seasons in the NFL with the 49ers, Ravens, Packers, and Browns after going undrafted from Auburn in 2015.
