Colin Cowherd: Carolina Panthers' Losing Streak Saved Cam Newton's Career

Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why the Carolina Panthers’ four-game losing may have saved embattled former starting quarterback Cam Newton’s career, as a Carolina team who was previously one of the league’s most impressive surprises has quickly turned into a complete disaster.

The Panthers have dropped to 5-7 and way out of the NFC playoff race just a month removed from their bye week at 5-3 when quarterback Kyle Allen was looking like a runaway favorite for Rookie of the Year.

Allen’s shocking success was coupled with Newton’s deteriorating and often ambiguous health status, as many were even predicting that Newton was milking his foot injury because he was too humiliated to face the reality of a pipedream scrub like Allen stealing away his starting job.

With the Panthers' season essentially over and Allen’s QBR having free-fallen all the way to 30th in the NFL, Colin believes the team needs to look at potentially franchising the free agent-to-be Cam, or reworking a new deal that would offer him the type of deal that former Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles signed a few years ago, when he signed a three-year deal worth $54 million.

Check out the video above as Colin details why the team could soon warm back up to the former MVP and Super Bowl runner-up.
