Colin Cowherd: Ron Rivera Made Terrible Decision Taking Redskins Job

Colin Cowherd: “I like Ron Rivera a lot and think he’s really, really good, but I think he made a bad choice… He’s seeking power and it feels like a mistake; like Chip Kelly to the 49ers. The rule in the NFL is the better the quarterback, the better your chances are at survival. Dwayne Haskins is the fourth best quarterback in that division. Two things matter in this league: ownership and stability – the Redskins are crazy town, and who’s your quarterback?? I think Haskins is a franchise guy but I don’t think he’s even close to ready and the word on him is that he’s not really a grinder, and just relies on his talent. He’s not mobile in an increasingly mobile league at quarterback. He needs perfect pocket situations, didn’t have many college starts, and is probably 2-3 years away from getting it right. You can’t overcome impatient & meddling ownership, and an average quarterback in this league. Bill Belichick couldn’t, Pete Carroll couldn’t, and Kyle Shanahan couldn’t.” (Full Video Above)

Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he thinks former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera made a terrible mistake by accepting the head coaching job with the bottom-feeding Washington Redskins.

Not only did Colin think it was odd that Rivera would align himself with arguably the most tumultuous ownership in the NFL, but Cowherd also believes that it was a major mistake for Rivera to pair himself with Redskins rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who finished the year with the worst QBR and passer rating in the league.

Check out the video above as Colin details why it’s so incredibly dangerous to blindly jump on the bandwagon of a young quarterback who hasn't shown obvious signs of imminent improvement.
