NBA superstar LeBron James unexpectedly chimed in on Major League Baseball’s ongoing PR nightmare regarding the Houston Astros' notorious sign-stealing cheating scandal and the alarmingly light punishment that came from it.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is taking a lot of heat this week, not only in the media, but from some of the best players in the sport including Mike Trout, Cody Bellinger, and Aaron Judge, who shockingly went from largely vanilla and predictable media presences to venomous and vindictive voices extremely critical of the league for refusing to punish individual Astros players.
In a tweet Tuesday, LeBron said:
Listen I know I don’t play baseball but I am in Sports and I know if someone cheated me out of winning the title and I found out about it I would be F*^king irate! I mean like uncontrollable about what I would/could do! Listen here baseball commissioner listen to your players speaking today about how disgusted, mad, hurt, broken, etc etc about this. Literally the ball(⚾) is in your court (or should I say field) and you need to fix this for the sake of Sports! #JustMyThoughtsComingFromASportsJunkieRegardlessMyOwnSportIPlay
Manfred spent Tuesday apologizing for his comments regarding the World Series trophy being referred to as simply a ‘piece of metal’, as Manfred made headlines for a quote he made about not stripping the 2017 World Series from the Astros.
Manfred was quickly derided by veteran players the likes of Justin Turner and Jon Lester, with Turner even commenting “I don’t think Rob Manfred has ever won anything in his life”, as players around the league were shocked that Manfred would trivialize the importance of a World Series trophy being revoked.
