The UFC flyweight championship could remain vacant following Saturday's (February 29) UFC Fight Night main event after one of the fighters missed his weight.
Brazilian flyweight Deiveson Figueiredo was 2.5 pounds over the 125-pound limit for the title fight during the final weigh-in on Friday. His opponent, Joseph Benavidez, made weight at 124.5 pounds.
Figueiredo was given an hour to lose the extra 2.5 pounds but opted not to cut weight.
The fight will still go on, but if Figueiredo wins, he will not claim the title, which has been vacant since former champion Henry Cejudo gave it up last year to fight in the bantamweight division.
Figueiredo will also have to forfeit 30 percent of his purse to Benavidez.
This is Benavidez's third attempt to claim the title. He lost in a split decision to Demetrious Johnson in September 2012, and in a 2013 rematch, Johnson knocked him out in the first round to defend the title.
Figueiredo wasn't the only fighter on the card to miss weight. Featherweight Grant Dawson weighed in at 149.5 pounds, 3.5 pounds over the featherweight limit.
