Report: Only 20% of NBA Players Are Registered to Vote

Colin Cowherd: “Besides players, was there a coach perhaps, who had power in these meetings and who was being listened to?”

Shams Charania: “You had the signature players, Chris Paula and Andre Iguodala – NBPA leadership, but two people in that meeting that were very local I’m told was Doc Rivers, the head coach of the Clippers, and John Lucas, the assistant coach in Houston. Doc Rivers’ message to the players was ‘you guys gotta look in the mirror to create real change. You guys are making this stand, but only 20% of you guys are registered voters. That needs to be 80-85%’, I’m told Rivers told the players. That was a direct message that you guys have to get your OWN house in order before you can allow and create change.”

NBA insider from The Athletic, Shams Charania, joined The Herd to discuss the NBA players and personnel meeting that was held Friday morning that ultimately saved the season, and avoided getting the playoffs boycotted.

Charania told Colin Cowherd that two of the most prominent voices during the meeting was Clippers head coach Doc Rivers, and Rockets assistant coach John Lucas, who both pushed to the players that they can’t ask for change in their communities when they don’t even push for change themselves, as Rivers reportedly drilled into the players’ heads that 'only 20% of you guys are registered voters.’

‘VOTE’ was one of the social justice slogans that NBA players have been given the opportunity to wear on the back of their jerseys during the NBA's reboot Orlando, most notably by Denver Nuggets All-Star Paul Millsap.

The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears had the same report, and says Chris Paul is pushing for every NBA player to be registered to vote in time for the 2020 presidential election.
