Doc Rivers: "What stands out to me is just watching the Republican Convention. They’re spewing this fear, right? You hear Donald Trump and all of them talking about fear. We’re the ones getting killed. We’re the ones getting shot. We’re the ones that were denied to live in certain communities. We’ve been hung. We’ve been shot. All you do is keep hearing about fear. It’s amazing to me why we keep loving this country, and this country does not love us back. It’s really so sad." (Rivers' Full Monologue at Bottom of Page)
Jason Whitlock: “I like and respect Doc Rivers, but he’s gotta get up out of this bubble. To get on TV and to act like what happened in Minneapolis, or what happened in Kenosha, Wisconsin is 'proof' that America doesn’t love you back? That was his argument: ‘We love America and America just doesn’t love us back.’ All because a cop got into an argument with a guy was wanted on arrest charges for sexual assault? Jacob Blake had an open warrant for a sexual assault, they have a dispute, they wrestle on the ground, he gets up and escapes, walks over to the other side of the car, apparently, and according to the Department of Justice, admits to having a knife… So because that cop and Jacob Blake got into a dispute that’s proof that 'America doesn’t love black people'? I think it’s proof that if you wrestle and fight with the cops things can spin completely out of control… It doesn’t say anything about what America thinks about me. I can point to examples of the great things that have happened in America for Black people. Is that not 'proof'?... We just gotta stop this. This expectation that every White person must love us in order for us to feel loved by America or be happy – that’s a standard that will never be met and you will always be miserable.” (Full segment above)
