Dan Orlovsky: “I look at that offense and I go ‘there’s no flaw, Kelce is the best player in football that’s not a quarterback, and…’”
Dan Patrick: “Wait, you think Kelce is the best player who’s not a quarterback?”
Orlovsky: “Yeah.”
DP: "Wow. Over Aaron Donald??”
Orlovsky: “For me, yes, just because he brings so much offense to their offense before the ball ever gets snapped. The amount of times they place him in specific positions to get the coverage is such an advantage because it doesn’t just affect the outcome of the play after the snap. Like he’ll go out there, and they’ll put a corner out there, and Mahomes knows it’s going to be zone, then he’ll go two high safeties, and here comes the run game. For me, that 6-yard run is huge because now there’s nothing as a defense you can do. I can literally go to the line of scrimmage and get into whatever play I want. As great as Aaron is, he’s remarkable, but he doesn’t create defense before the snap as much as Kelce creates offense.”
DP: “Do you think we’re going to look at Kelce as being the greatest tight end of all time before it's all said and done?”
Orlovsky: “If they go on the dynasty run over the next five years like I expect them to, absolutely."
ESPN NFL analyst and former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky was on The Dan Patrick Show explaining to Dan why he thinks Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is the ‘best player in football who is not a quarterback.’
After Dan Patrick then quickly interjected and asked him if he really thought Kelce was better than Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, Orlovsky said that was correct, and said “As great as Aaron is, he’s remarkable, but he doesn’t create defense before the snap as much as Kelce creates offense.”
