High School Football Player Taken Off Field By Police After Attacking Ref

A high school football game in Edinburg, TX was stopped after a player ran onto the field and speared a referee that had just tossed him out of the game moments prior to the carnage.

Emmanuel Duron, a defensive end at Edinburgh High School, watched from the sidelines as the referee disqualified him from the game, and then did a dead sprint with his helmet off towards midfield, before brutally laying the official out. The ref didn’t have enough time to brace for the devastating blow, going completely airborne before dropping down to the turf in a crumpled heap.

The referee had called a personal foul on Duron for a late hit on the quarterback, and also tagged him with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that got him ejected. Approximately 10 seconds after he was tossed, video captured from the stands showed the violent hit. It is not clear at this point what penalties came after the uncanny cheap shot.

Duron's Edinburg team would end up winning the state playoff game 35-21, but the entire school was thrown out of the playoffs by the district because of Duron's attack, ending their season immediately.

Duron was then held back by a teammate and two coaches, who guided him away from the fracas at midfield and over to their sideline. One coach appeared to get into the face of Duron, and animatedly admonish the young man who may never play high school football again.

Police were called out onto the field, and escorted Duron off the grounds. It is unknown if Duron was arrested, but he left the premises on his own accord as three cops trailed him, and he will face chargers for assault.

Duron was the district's 'Defensive Player of the Year' in 2019, and is also reportedly a standout performer on the wrestling team as well.
