Nick Wright: “Here is what I’m concerned about with Steph and the Warriors. I think this year is going to EXPOSE – not expose Steph as a player, but expose a part of Steph Curry’s game that a lot of us, even though we say greatest shooter ever, one of the greatest teammates ever, and a great champion, have always quietly suspected, but have never been able to see. We know Steph is the perfect piece on a great team, but can he carry a bad team? Not to a championship, not to 55 wins, but how about to the playoffs? If not to the playoffs, a .500 record?? Steph has never needed to do what Russell Westbrook had to do the year after KD left when all they were trying to do was get to 45 wins, and the offense was all through him. What I fear what we’re going to find out this year is HE CAN’T. That’s not a massive indictment, but when we’re talking about the ’20 Greatest Players in the History of the Game’, it’s a little indictment, and it’s gotta matter somewhat… Chris Paul, Westbrook, and James Harden were all point guards who could drag a mediocre or bad team to a winning record and the playoffs... After watching the Warriors and watching Steph last night, what I thought was a coin flip of ‘can he do it?’ I now think it’s 80-20 that he can’t… I don’t think Steph could have done what Westbrook did and dragged the 2017 Thunder to the playoffs.” (Full Video Above)
Listen to Nick Wright, guest-hosting for Colin Cowherd, explain why he thinks Steph Curry’s legacy will be damaged in 2021 if the Warriors fail to not only make the playoffs, but even finish .500, as Nick is not sure that Steph can pull a James Harden or Russell Westbrook, and single-handedly drag a bad team to the playoffs with a superhuman usage rate on offense.
Check out the video above as Nick details why he believes we may not look at Steph’s career the same if the Warriors have another terrible season with a prime Steph playing the entire season.
