Why Lakers Shouldn't Be the Favorites to Win the NBA Finals Again

Doug Gottlieb: “With all the attention on the Lakers’ roster on paper getting much better, we should point out that the reason the Lakers had to step up their game and their roster was because they weren’t a great collection of talent last year – they were a great ‘team.’ They won because they stayed together and because of the leadership of LeBron, and because their defense, NOT because of their offense… Rob Pelinka has done a very god job, but the reason he was forced to do a very good job and move some pieces around is because he knew his team wasn’t all that good, they just got the most of what they had, played together and stuck together, and got the benefit of not having to play the Clippers or Bucks on their path to the NBA championship… It doesn’t mean there’s an asterisk next to it, it’s just the reality of it… I’m warning you ‘Laker Guy’ and ‘Clipper Denier’ that the Clippers' roster is better, and their coach is a better fit… They didn’t win last year because of their roster, and they got breaks along the way.” (Full Video Above)

Listen to Doug Gottlieb explain why he thinks the defending champion Lakers are getting too much acclaim as the ‘favorites’ to repeat as NBA Finals champions in 2021, as Doug says LA’s title run in 2020 had more to do with luck and good fortune than it did them actually having the most talented team.
