Colin Cowherd: “The Washington Football Team has released Dwayne Haskins, are you surprised?”
Peter Schrager: “Ron Rivera very nearly cut Dwayne Haskins last Monday. They came back into the building and Rivera was like ‘okay, I can’t in good faith keep this guy around after those pictures came out.’ He was basically talked out of it by Doug Williams and a few other people in the organization saying ‘think about the other 52 men on that field. We can’t throw Taylor Heinicke out there in the biggest game of the season. Dwayne knows the offense. Let’s fine him, let's hit him in his wallet, and let’s put a zero-tolerance policy in it.’ After yesterday’s performance it wasn’t like they were any better off with him on the field, he kinda leaves the building and goes home, and then does a media availability. They stripped him on his captaincy... But this morning it was like there was no reason to keep this guy around -- we have to set an example. It’s almost like one of these philosophical things. Did he give you the best opportunity to win yesterday? Maybe? Or does the rest of the team roll their eyes and say ‘I can’t believe this guy is our quarterback’… I don’t know what team he’s on next year, or if and what position he is in. He might be second or third-string but I don’t see him starting.” (Video Segment Above)
Listen to Fox Sports NFL reporter Peter Schrager join The Herd to break down the timeline and sequence of events leading up to the Washington Football Team’s unprecedented release of their 2019 first-round draft pick Dwayne Haskins.
Check out the segment above as Schrager details to Colin Cowherd how Washington head coach Ron Rivera initially wanted to cut Haskins last week after photos surfaced of Haskins maskless and with strippers after a loss in Week 15, but team exec Doug Williams talked him into keeping Haskins on the team for their potential NFC East-clinching game vs. Carolina.
