Colin Cowherd: “Before Tua’s first start I said I worried that there was no ‘special.’ Boy, the last three weeks I worry about him. One touchdown, three picks, and he doesn’t throw over the top. He’s accurate but I always feel like that’s kind of the base. If you’re not accurate you have to be so mobile that for the first couple years in the NFL until you get your accuracy right – Josh Allen or Lamar – you can buy some time with your legs. I don’t see the ‘SPECIAL’. Going to Buffalo and beating those Bills, good luck, but I’m starting to see what I worried about with Tua.” (Audio Above)
Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he was hesitant even before the season began when it came to jumping on the Tua Tagovailoa rookie bandwagon, as Colin was skeptical then, and skeptical now on Tagovailoa actually being able to succeed on the pro level with such limited size and mobility.
Colin has gone so far to say that the Dolphins should consider using their no. 3 pick in this year’s NFL Draft, a pick they acquired from the 4-12 Texans in the Laremy Tunsil trade, to draft a quarterback and quickly pivot away from Tagoavailoa the same way Arizona swiftly moved off Josh Rosen in favor of Kyler Murray last season.
Tagovailoa had a rather underwhelming rookie year that saw him get benched twice in one five game stretch, then get annihilated in a career-worst performance during a must-win Week 17 game in Buffalo. Tagovailoa finished the season 26th in QBR, 30th in yards per attempt, and second to last in the NFL in yards per game.
Check out the audio above as Colin doubts Tagovailoa having the ‘special’ needed to become a successful franchise quarterback.
