Marcus Freeman Keeps Continuity at Notre Dame

Thursday on 2 Pros and a Cup of Joe, Brady Quinn tells Jonas Knox and LaVar Arrington what led to Notre Dame hiring defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman as their next head coach. With ND knocking on the door of the college football playoff, Marcus Freeman made a compelling argument to AD Jack Swarbrick, that keeping continuity and stability in the coaching ranks is the best way to make their case to the college football playoff committee.

Brady Quinn: "They don't want to have their chance at playing, potentially, for a National Championship be impacted by instability. So the Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick at Notre Dame ended up meeting with Marcus Freeman who gave him a compelling pitch for why he should be the next head coach. And that pitch coupled with a few things Jack Swarbrick wanted; for example Tommy Rees having to come back as the OC. Mike Elston coming back to call the defense at Notre Dame so Marcus Freeman could be freed up to be the head coach. All of those things had to be accomplished in order for this thing to move forward and keep the majority of what was there before Brian Kelly left intact... It was all accelerated because of, some of the support from the recruits and players for Marcus Freeman, but more so because they wanted to give this class that's been really successful at Notre Dame a chance to be potentially in fore the college football playoff."
