Rob Parker: Bill Belichick Will Go Down in Sports Infamy Like Barry Bonds

Rob Parker: “It’s strange in American sports how some people don’t carry baggage with them but others do. Frankly, I look at Bill Belichick as the Barry Bonds of the NFL. No coach was ever fined a half million dollars. Look at the draft picks they lost. He had situation after situation even as late as a number of years ago with the Cincinnati Bengals on the sidelines. People say ‘WELL, WHY DID THEY VIDEO TAPE CINCINNATI, THEY BEAT THEM EIGHT STRAIGHT TIMES!’... Well, there was a new coach when they started to videotape that guy. There’s a pattern there. Josh McDaniels, under the Bill Belichick tree, what happened? Got fired in Denver, he was found out to be videotaping team signals as well, and was fired there. Obviously, they didn’t play well either. Eric Mangini, his own disciple, you can’t have a more damming proclamation from anybody than a guy who was in your inner circle, and was one of your disciples -- when Mangini became coach of the Jets made it very clear ‘DON’T DO TO ME WHAT YOU DO TO EVERYBODY ELSE.’ If that’s not damning, I don’t know what else is. He didn’t wanna fall prey to it [illegal surveillance]. Of course, you talk about the six Super Bowls, but you can’t tell the whole story about Bill Belichick unless it includes the cheating scandals that were involved. It would be great if you could throw flowers at him and he didn’t have any of that stuff to be able to mar or taint his career. I still believe the Patriots never got the full credit that they should have winning six Super Bowls because people always question whether it was on the up and up, and that’s a shame, because they did a lot of winning and people will always remember that [the cheating].”

Watch Rob Parker compare Bill Belichick’s NFL legacy to that of former MLB superstar Barry Bonds, as Parker says Belichick’s involvement with Patriots cheating scandals rivals the same predicament Bonds found himself in with mounting allegations of rampant steroid usage.

Check out the segment above as Parker says history won’t be too fond of Belichick’s Patriots teams, and says it’s a ‘shame’ that their six Super Bowl titles will forever be marred in controversy the same way Bonds’ prodigious statistics have been branded with an asterisk.
