The New England Patriots introduced new Head Coach Jerod Mayo this morning and his status as the first black head coach in franchise history was addressed during the news conference. Mayo says that being the first black head coach means a lot to him, and says he DOES see race, so he can recognize, acknowledge and fight racism. Doug applauds his stance and thinks anyone calling this a diversity hire is way off base.
Doug Gottlieb: “(The New England Patriots) just want to win football games. Like, I don’t think Jerod Mayo got the job because he’s black. I don’t think he got the job for any other reason than he’s a Patriot...I don’t think any of it is because he’s black.”
