The Bears Didn’t Need To Do Right By Justin Fields

The Pittsburgh Steelers picked up QB Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears for a steal, just a sixth round draft pick. Dan thinks the Bears could have done better than a sixth round pick and didn’t need to cater to Fields at all. There were a number of teams interested in his services as a backup QB but the Bears short-changed themselves for no good reason.

Dan Patrick: “The right thing to do is to get the right draft pick or picks there, not, ‘Hey Justin, where do you want to go?’ If I’m the Steelers, OK, I got a little bit of leverage here. ‘Alright, he wants to go here, he wants to play for Mike and, alright, a 6th round pick, how’s that?’ It feels like you could have had him, anybody could have had him for a 4th or 5th round pick.”
