Renderings of a potential dome stadium concept for the Kansas City Chiefs have been released following a failed ballot to keep the NFL franchise, as well as Major League Baseball's Kansas City Royals, in the city failed earlier this year.
FOX 4 News reporter John Holt shared renderings of a potential new stadium for the Chiefs imagined by architect David Manica as part of ongoing efforts to keep both franchises in Jackson County.
"BREAKING: As the #KSleg considers revised STAR Bonds for stadiums, @fox4kc has obtained the vision of what a new #Chiefs stadium in KCK might look like. Designed for unnamed developer working to lure the team as envisioned by @manica_arch," Holt wrote on his X account.
The proposed stadium would be located about 30 minutes from Arrowhead Stadium, which has served as the Chiefs' home since 1972. Last month, Jackson County voters rejected a sales tax to benefit renovations on Arrowhead Stadium, as well as the Royals' proposed new stadium, which has led to potential uncertainty.
The state of Kansas is aiming to approve a House Bill that would change certain sales tax and revenue bonds qualification in order to finance development for major commercial, entertainment and tourism projects. Neither the Chiefs or Royals have publicly expressed their intention to move to Kansas and relocation and the back-to-back Super Bowl champions had extended its lease in a renovated facility and stadium complex to remain in Missouri for several decades, though Chiefs owner Clark Hunt acknowledged that the team could explore other options following the failed tax vote.
"Arrowhead is a special place for our family and our fan base," Hunt said via SI.com last month. "That was one of the reasons that we focused on it with the last effort, but going forward it may make more sense for us to be in a new stadium.''
The Chiefs are just two full months removed from winning their third Super Bowl in five years and have appeared in the AFC Championship Game during each of the past five seasons.
