NFL legend Emmitt Smith shared a heartbreaking response to fellow Pro Football Hall of Famer and longtime Dallas Cowboys teammate Larry Allen's death on Monday (June 3).
Smith, 55, the NFL's all-time leading rusher, shared a live video on his Instagram account after the Cowboys announced the death of Allen, 52, his teammate from 1994 to 2002, whom he called "one of the best offensive linemen I've ever played with."
"I'm at a loss for words right now," Smith said with tears in his eyes. "Such a good dude, great player, super person."
"It just breaks my heart and I know life is very fragile," Smith added. "We're only here for a moment and we need to make the best out of every moment and not take people for granted."
The Cowboys announced that Allen died while on vacation with his family in Mexico on Sunday (June 2).
"The Dallas Cowboys are very saddened to share that Cowboys legend, Super Bowl Champion, Cowboys Ring of Honor member, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Allen passed away suddenly while on vacation in Mexico with his family on Sunday," the Cowboys said. "Larry, known for his great athleticism and incredible strength, was one of the most respected, accomplished offensive linemen to ever play in the NFL."
Allen was selected by Dallas at No. 46 overall in the second-round of the 1994 NFL Draft and made 170 starts in 176 appearances during his 12 seasons with the franchise, which included winning Super Bowl XXX. The Los Angeles native spent his final two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before signing a one-day contract to retire as a Cowboy in 2009.
Allen, elected as a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer in 2013, was a seven-time first-team All-Pro and 11-time Pro Bowler, as well as a member of the NFL 1990s and 2000s All-Decade Teams and 100th Anniversary All-Time Team.
