University of Connecticut Men’s Head Basketball Coach Dan Hurley declined a $70M/6-year offer from the Los Angeles Lakers to be their new head coach and instead will return to UConn and apparently sign an extension with the school. As the media attempt to understand the decision by Hurley, Doug Gottlieb, who is a D1 men’s head basketball coach as well, shares his insight into why Hurley decided to remain where he is. He understands the grass isn’t always greener on the other side no matter how many banners hang in the rafters.
Doug Gottlieb: “When you catch your breath, and you check yourself, and you find out where you fit, you go, ‘You know what? Let me lean into people who get me. Let me lean into where I fit.’ I think that’s why Danny (Hurley) stayed.”
