Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson was killed in a three-car crash in Maryland on Saturday (July 6) morning. He was 24.

The Maryland State Police said Jackson was riding in the front passenger's seat of a Dodge Charger when it was struck by a silver Infiniti Q50 driven by Cori Clingman. The Infiniti then hit a Chevrolet Impala while trying to change lanes at a high rate of speed.

The Charger then veered off the side of the road and struck multiple tree stumps.

Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton Jr., 24, who were both in the Charger, were also killed in the crash. Nobody in the other two vehicles was injured.

Authorities believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, and said charges are pending.

"We are devastated by the news of Khyree Jackson's death following an overnight car accident," the Vikings said in a statement. "While we work to gather more information, we have spoken to Khyree's family and offered the support of the Minnesota Vikings. We have also communicated the news to Vikings players, coaches and staff and have offered counseling for those who need emotional support. Our thoughts are with Khyree's family, friends, teammates, and coaches, as well as all the victims of this tragic accident."

The Vikings picked Jackson in the fourth round of the draft, and he was expected to be a contender to start at cornerback.
