The Fastest Man in the World Doesn’t Resonate Anymore

US sprinter Noah Lyles won the gold medal in the 100M at the Olympics in Paris, which ostensibly anoints him as “The Fastest Man in the World,” but he isn’t getting the respect and notoriety traditionally afforded to that title. It may just be the long shadow cast by Usain Bolt, but Lyles isn’t the household name he might have been in years past for this accomplishment.

Dan Patrick: “I don’t know how many people realized yesterday who the fastest man in the world is, and has been in Noah Lyles. It’s weird. Usain Bolt cast such a large shadow over that event that it almost feels like, ‘Yeah but, how would he have done against Usain Bolt?’ I mean, it’s not fair to him. I just don’t know if it resonates the way it once did.”
