Dan Patrick: “Does ‘Fastest Man in the World’ resonate the way it used to? That was must-see TV for me growing up. I don’t know how many people realized yesterday who the ‘Fastest Man in the World’ is and has been in Noah Lyles. It’s weird.
Usain Bolt cast such a large shadow over that event that is almost feels like ‘yeah, but how would he have done against Usain Bolt??’ It’s not fair to Lyles, but I just don’t know if it resonates the way it once did -- ‘YOU’RE THE FASTEST MAN IN THE WORLD.’ Because we knew who those people were. We knew and it was a big deal. I don’t know if it’s the same. It’s just like the heavy champion of the world, it’s just not the same the way it used to be.”
Listen to Dan Patrick of Fox Sports Radio explain why he thinks the ‘World Fastest Man’ moniker that American track star Noah Lyles has branded himself as doesn’t hit the same way it once did, as Dan believes Usain Bolt’s absence at the 2024 Paris Olympics has diluted the importance of the 100 and 200-meter sprints with most fans believing none of these athletes could have beaten Bolt in his prime.
Check out the segment above as Dan compares it to the heavyweight champion in boxing, saying everyone used to know who the heavyweight champion and 'World's Fastest Man' was, but says it's become a disillusioned denomination in recent years.
