Rich Davis: “LeBron James was getting out of a car on his way to a post-gold medal celebration and some kid jumps right at LeBron the minute he gets out of the car. My first instinct was ‘give some people space’, but the more I thought about it and looked at it, just take a listen at the tone in LeBron’s voice. ‘STOP, STOP, STOP, DON’T DO THAT’... If it were some paparazzi guy trying to get an autograph, one of those autograph stalkers ‘SIGN THIS HELMET! SIGN THIS JERSEY!’, those people are a pain in the a**, but this was like a pre-teen/teenage kid who had his phone out like ‘YO, THIS IS LEBRON JAMES!’ This was a little French kid who’s thinking ‘what are the chances LeBron James and all these superstars are where I live??’ and LeBron shut this kid down. First, I was like you gotta give celebrities and athletes their space, and then I changed my mind because I was like ‘no, no, no’, LeBron James is one of the most elite celebrities on planet earth. He needs to be better in that moment. I know everyone slips up so I’m not going to be too hard on him, but I don’t care if this kid was a little pain in the butt, I don’t care if he caught him off guard, it’s a kid. You’re in Paris one last day, you just made a gold medal run, I just thought it was a weak-a** look for a guy I defend all the time."
Steve Covino: “Those are your fans. These are the people that make you. Superstars live a life we will never understand, but you have to keep things in perspective. The fans are what make you, and when it comes to kids – that's different. This was a teenage kid who was excited like a little kid because it’s LeBron. A superstar like LeBron could bring out the little kid in anybody. I’m sure he signs autographs all the time but you can’t say it’s not a bad look. When you’re LeBron James and you live under a microscope, you don’t know better than that? So what is he doing when there’s NOT cameras around? You gotta give LeBron grace because he is great about kids, but you also gotta be real about the moment.”
