Colin Cowherd: This Could Be the Season Aaron Rodgers Falls Off the Cliff

Colin Cowherd: “The last time Aaron Rodgers made a Pro Bowl was 2021. Since that time C.J. Stroud has come into the league – he's a top young quarterback. In 2020, Tua, Burrow, Jordan Love, and Jalen Hurts all got drafted. They’ve all exploded and they’re much better today. By 2021, when Aaron was making his last Pro Bowl, Mahomes was better, Josh Allen was bigger and stronger, Lamar did things Aaron couldn’t... Now Burrow is better, Tua is better, Hurts is better, Herbert has Harbaugh, and Trevor Lawrence has his best roster. A lot of the quarterbacks I like have offensive head coaches or great coordinators. CJ Stroud, Matt Stafford, Mahomes, Trevor Lawrence, Deshaun Watson, Tua, Brock Purdy, Joe Burrow, and Justin Herbert finally. They have offensive coordinators or great coordinators we like. Aaron has Nat Hackett and Robert Saleh, and has taken four snaps in 500+ days.
This idea that ‘thaNk GOdTHE SAVIor Is bACk!’ -- well, Sauce Gardner is a better corner than Aaron is a quarterback, and Quinnen Williams is a better defensive tackle than Aaron is a quarterback. You will find out this year that Garrett Wilson is a better receiver than Aaron is a quarterback, and Breece Hall is a better running back when healthy than Aaron is as a quarterback. The defense is better than the offense. Are we sure that Aaron is the ‘savior’? By Thanksgiving are we going to be thinking ‘I’d like to be a little younger and more dynamic at quarterback'??
This idea that Aaron is going to ‘SAVE!’ it... He’s not their best player. The offensive line will get better, cross your fingers, but I’ve watched old quarterbacks fall off a cliff. Peyton Manning was in Super Bowls, then he was 39 and had 9 touchdown and 17 picks, and fell off cliff. I watched Brett Favre fall off a cliff – 11 touchdowns and 19 picks the year after being sensational in Minnesota.
Aaron is the oldest player in the league coming off a major surgery. His last season in Green Bay he had a lower passer rating -- with a good o-line, running game, and a good coach -- than Daniel Jones.
New York is going ‘THIS iS tHe saViOR!’ Saviors are usually the players in their prime like Aaron Judge or Shohei Ohtani. Saviors are Mahomes, or Josh Allen. They’re players in their prime, and often inexpensive early in their prime. That’s not to mention all this side stuff with Aaron that this book points out.
He’s not the best player on the team and I think it will be established early that he’s not a top 4 player on the team. He’s taken four snaps in 500 days and he’s 40. I’ve watched Manning and Favre fall off a cliff. He’s not LeBron and he’s not Brady. He’s not that obsessive about his health. He did not get that DNA. He’s not as obsessed as Tom and not a freak of nature like LeBron.”

Watch Colin Cowherd of FS1’s The Herd push back on the popular narrative around NFL circles that Aaron Rodgers is going to be the ‘savior’ of the New York Jets this season.

Check out the segment above as Colin details why he thinks this could finally be the year that Rodgers ‘falls off the cliff’ the same way Peyton Manning and Brett Favre did at the bitter end of their careers when they went from Pro Bowl-caliber to laughably washed up seemingly overnight.
