Colin Cowherd: “Let’s talk about the second-best team in the league, and I think it’s pretty substantial and clear it’s Detroit. That was NOT an easy game – Minnesota has engulfed good teams. They had the horrible injury to Aidan Hutchinson, but quarterback, o-line, run-game, clever offensive coordinator, power, finesse, culture... There are no weaknesses to that offense. Jared Goff essentially looks like he’s playing catch with his friends. In his last three games Jared Goff is completing 85% of his throws with a 153 passer rating. It is a video game. And Minnesota’s defense is ferocious and outstanding. He had three incompletions. CJ Stroud and Brock Purdy said they were seeing ghosts, ‘I’VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS DEFENSE’, and Jared Goff looked like he was playing catch.
Chiefs-Lions Super Bowl? Heading into Week 8 it’s kind of starting to feel inevitable. You don’t have to reach for the narrative or grasp for a story. Here’s what I love with Detroit – there’s this collective chip on the shoulder for Detroit. Goff was cast off in LA, Dan Campbell has been mocked, the city of Detroit for years has been a punchline, and Detroit has taken that and built this muscle car from different parts. It’s got a ‘Mad Max’ feel to it. They are a kneecap biting monster.
All these routs are fun, but what you watched with Detroit and Minnesota, that felt like the NFC Championship. You’re on the road, you trail early, the crowd is humming and you can’t hear, you start running the football, you take a lead, then you fall behind, then you rally and take the lead, and hold on. THAT looked like a playoff game.
With Detroit I feel like I’m watching this adolescent boy and in a couple months his voice gets deeper, he’s got more confidence... A few pimples, but one morning he walks out and mom looks up and he’s 6’5” 245 and has a D-1 scholarship to Michigan or Ohio State. They just look the part. Power, finesse, run-game, effortless completions, win leading, come back when trailing – I don’t see anything about Detroit that I don’t like.”
