Jason Smith filling in for Dan Patrick explains to Doug Gottlieb his take on the Lakers situation and feels the negotiation for hiring Tyronn Lue failed because of the power struggle between the Lakers and LeBron James.
The consideration of Ty Lue as head coach was about appearing as trying to help LeBron James. However the Lakers insistence on having their own guy like Jason Kidd be on staff as well as limiting Lue's term to 3 years is seen as the Lakers wanting to limit Lue to coaching within James' contract as well as having a guy they could possibly have fill in for Lue once his contract ran its course.
