If fans are able to attend NFL games this year,they will all be wearing masks while inside the stadium. The NFL announced the new policy on Twitter.
"For those wondering, yes, it is league-wide: fans at NFL games this season will be required to wear face coverings," Brian McCarthy, the league's vice president of communications, wrote.
It remains unclear if fans will be able to attend games in person this year. The NFL has not instituted a league-wide policy and is instead, leaving the decision up to individual teams.
The Jets and Giants announced they would play games at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey without any fans "until further notice."
The Las Vegas Raiders and the Los Angeles Chargers, which are both opening new stadiums, are pessimistic about having fans in attendance. The Chargers said that SoFi Stadium will be "at limited or no capacity" this season, while Raiders owner Mark Davis said he is leaning against letting fans into Allegiant Stadium.
Other teams are making plans to welcome fans to the stadium when the season kicks off. Those plans include reduced capacity, strict social distancing guidelines, and a requirement to wear masks. The Atlanta Falcons released a plan to have between 10,000 and 20,000 fans in attendance at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
