Patriots Are a Completely Irrelevant Franchise Without Tom Brady

Colin Cowherd: “The Patriots with Tom Brady feels like a long time ago. They’re IRRELEVANT. They’re so bad and Tom is so good that they don’t matter. In Boston, the Patriots aren’t the Celtics or the Red Sox, and they’re not even the Bruins. Those teams were dominant in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Even though the Red Sox weren’t winning titles they were such a part of the sport. The Patriots have been a mess forever. The stadium was a mess, and they didn’t make any money. The Dolphins, Steelers, or Giants were always the team on the East Coast. They were a mess forever without Tom Brady. Parcells was good for about 45 minutes but he left. Pete Carroll came in and that didn’t work. They’ve never had any sustained success without Brady. Belichick couldn’t win the year before Tom started, and he couldn’t win the year after he left. I don’t think New England ever understood in the moment how much of this, and how transformative Tom was as a personality. They knew Tom was good, but when you’re historically irrelevant, and then suddenly get relevant, you can talk yourself into ‘WE SOMEPIN’ HERE! WE GOOD! WE SPECIAL!’, but the Patriots aren’t. When I was a kid, we NEVER talked about the Patriots… There was never a moment before Brady took over the starting job where the Patriots were a national team… The only game New England will be invited to on National TV will be the game they host Tom Brady.”

Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he thinks the Patriots franchise could be quickly steering towards a decade of irrelevance, as Colin says New England is learning the hard way that their 20-year run as the NFL’s most successful franchise was almost entirely because of Tom Brady’s excellence as the greatest quarterback of all time.

Check out the video above as Colin details why he believes the Patriots took Brady for granted and forgot all about their past as an anonymous franchise that even most Boston sports fans ignored.
