Chris Broussard Explains How He Got the Kawhi Leonard Clippers Deal Wrong

Colin Cowherd: “A lot of people were saying ‘Well, Chris, you had the Clippers out of it.’ And your response to that is…??”
Chris Broussard: “Thursday morning (July 4) they were essentially out of it because Kawhi was not going to the Clippers unless they had a second star and the Clippers understood this. I’m told as late as Friday afternoon (July 5) Doc Rivers thought Kawhi was going to the Lakers. Once they made the trade for Paul George it made all the sense in the world. We’ve said LeBron is a BOSS, but what Kawhi did was the biggest BOSS move by a player that I’ve ever seen in the NBA in my 25 years of covering it. Kawhi had the entire NBA stumped and I thought he was going to the Lakers and so did so many other people. To keep that quiet was amazing.”

Listen to NBA Insider and co-host of Fox Sports Radio’s The Odd Couple Chris Broussard join The Herd to talk about how he and countless other NBA insiders alike were so fooled by Kawhi Leonard signing with the Los Angeles Clippers as one of the most important free agents in sports history shockingly signed with one of North American sports’ least successful franchises.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported late Friday night that Leonard was signing with the Clippers after it appeared as if the Lakers and Raptors were heavy front-runners for the two-time Finals MVP.

Chris says the Clippers and Doc Rivers believed they were OUT of the running on Kawhi as late as Friday afternoon {a couple hours before the deal} and says the Paul George trade stumped the entire basketball world.
