Clay Travis: “Antonio Brown is a cautionary tale that should be held up for athletes everywhere that you don’t need to be worried about your brand. There is an illusion that many pro athletes have bought into, that players need to be concerned with their social media brand above all else. If you dominate in your job, you’re going to be fine. There are athletes that get so seduced by the attention that they get from social media, that they get addicted to it, and to the hindrance of their career. Antonio Brown is the perfect example. Brown gave up 30$ million in guarantees because he can’t control himself on social media and went full crazy. He’s burned down his entire career. Michael Jordan isn’t on social media and has created the greatest brand in the history of athletics. Kawhi Leonard is not on social media and created a free agent frenzy having nothing to do with his social media. Peyton Manning is the most lucrative NFL endorser of all time and isn’t on social media. Charles Barkley is the most influential media member in the history of former athletes and he’s not on social media. Leonardo Dicaprio is maybe the greatest actor of his generation and isn’t sitting around on social media letting you know what he’s doing every minute. The list goes on and on.” (Full Audio at Bottom of Page)
Listen to Clay Travis explain why he doesn’t believe Antonio Brown will ever play in the NFL again, and argues why social media is the main culprit behind the former star NFL wide receiver completely torpedoing his football career in the summer of 2019.
Brown used a seemingly record-setting string of consecutive PR disasters to sabotage his way off the Steelers, Raiders, and Patriots, in an infamous exit that was one of the most scandalous in sports history.
Clay thinks Brown became addicted to social media and exposed his most obsessive and compulsive characteristics in the public forum.
Check out the audio below as Clay details why Brown became so infatuated with his own brand on social media, that he suddenly became unable to balance his brand with his talents in the NFL.
