5 Rule Changes that Would Make the NFL Much Better
1. Eliminate the Pro Bowl: "It's the only All-Star game at the end of the season and star players don't want to play in it. The Super Bowl players don't play and many more skip the game altogether. It used to be in Hawaii and now it's in Orlando, which is fine but it's NOT Hawaii. It's also confusing -- are you a Pro Bowler or did you make All-Pro? Players want to make All-Pro but fan thinks the Pro Bowl is better, even though it's a popularity contest and kind of a joke. If you're going to do 17 games, get rid of the Pro Bowl."
2. Officiate the Regular Season like You Officiate the Postseason: "The Playoffs were great because they didn't call many penalties. There were like no holding calls in the Super Bowl. Regular season NFL games average over 14 penalties a game, and they'll call holding way away from the play. Did you notice how the officials got out of the way in the playoffs? I would eliminate any holding call that isn't directly attributed to the play."
3. Change Overtime Rules: "The road team would ALWAYS get the ball first. You tell the home team that there isn't a 50/50 coin flip. Watch home teams be hyper-aggressive when forced to be. You better take that ball with a minute and thirty seconds left and go for the score. Too many times in these games teams kneel knowing they can go to overtime. If you can't beat somebody at home after 13 possessions then the road team should get it first in overtime."
4. Make the Onside Kick What it Used to Be: "After changing the onside kick, less than 10% of the time these kicks get recovered. I thought the NFL tweaks things like the PAT to give us more excitement, but no one can recover the onside kick anymore. It used to be around 1 out of 5, and now it's around 1 out of 10. It's useless and boring."
5. Have Super Bowl in Only Los Angeles, Las Vegas, or Miami: "Folks, we don't move the Grammys or Oscars, we don't move New Year's Eve, and we don't move Mardi Gras. New York and Minnesota were too cold, and Jacksonville was too small. Who are we kidding here, Miami, LA, and Vegas are the three best 'big event' towns in America. You really want a Super Bowl in a blizzard? Why are we giving the Super Bowl to cold weather cities? There's a reason they put Bowl games in warm weather -- you want to REWARD fans and REWARD teams with high quality weather that won't get in the way of the game."
