Chris Broussard: Is Zion Williamson already a ‘superstar’ in the NBA?”
Rob Parker: “NO WAY, NO HOW. This is way too premature. I get it, here’s popular, he played at a big program in Duke, he ripped out of his sneakers, and he's all over YouTube, but just because you’re ‘recognizable’ or ‘popular’ doesn’t mean you’re a ‘superstar’. HE’S PLAYED IN NINE GAMES!”
Broussard: “He’s a ‘celebrity’ and well known, but don’t confuse ‘superstar’ with ‘celebrity.’” (Full Video Above)
Listen to Chris Broussard and Rob Parker explain why they think it’s ridiculous for fans and pundits around the NBA to already be touting New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson as the next superstar of the league, despite having played in just 9 games for a Pelicans team 10 games under .500.
Zion is averaging 21.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 27.0 minutes of action, and is 'shooting' 57.6% from the field.
Despite his impressive efficiency numbers, Broussard and Parker both agree that there is a massive difference between NBA ‘superstar’ and NBA ‘celebrity’, and say that just because Zion is one of the most popular players in the league, doesn’t mean he’s any better of a pro basketball just a month into his NBA career.
Check out the video above as Broussard and Parker detail why the hyperbole around Zion is getting insane.
