Listen to Doug Gottlieb explain why he believes former Carolina Panthers free agent Cam Newton is still unemployed, and why he thinks the 30-year-old will remain unemployed for the duration of the offseason.
Newton is perhaps one of the most polarizing free agents in NFL history considering he’s only five years removed from an MVP season in 2015, and it’s not like his health has conclusively proven to be irreparable
Newton is now the last big name on offense from a free agent quarterback class that was arguably the deepest in history, with big names the likes of Tom Brady, Philip Rivers, Ryan Tannehill, Jameis Winston, Teddy Bridgewater, Marcus Mariota, Nick Foles, and Andy Dalton all joining Newton in free agency.
Doug says there’s a combination of misfortunes working against Cam when it comes to his candidacy for a job, whether it’s his inability to mesh in offenses across the league, his shadowy health status, his ego as one of the game’s most identifiable 'brands', his unwillingness to sit and ‘learn’ for a year alla Jameis Winston, and just simply the distraction Newton would cause backing up a young player like Josh Allen.
Check out the video above as Gottlieb details the reasons why Newton is probably looking at a ‘wait till an NFL starter gets hurt to sign early in the year’ scenario.
