Listen to NFL Vegas sharps RJ Bell and Steve Fezzik join Jonas Knox on ‘Straight Out of Vegas’ to preview the 25th ranked team on their 2020 win/total prediction rankings, the Las Vegas Raiders.
Las Vegas finally gets its first NFL team just three years after Sin City got its first NHL franchise during an exciting time in the city’s history.
The same can’t be said for former franchise quarterback Derek Carr, as the one-time MVP candidate is now arguably the NFL starter with the most to lose in 2020, as a broken right leg on Christmas Eve of 2016 potentially ruined a bright career.
Carr hasn’t been the same since that dominant season in 2016 in which he went 12-3, and posted a 28 to 6 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Carr is 17-30 ever since that fateful day, and has averaged just 21 touchdown passes the last three seasons.
With the team signing former no. 2 overall pick Marcus Mariota in the offseason, Carr’s future with the team appears bleak barring a renaissance season.
Vegas didn’t go crazy in free agency, making modest splashes like linebacker Cory Littleton from the Rams, defensive end Carl Nassib from the Bucs, wide receiver Nelson Agholor from the Eagles, linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski from the Bears, and even Jason Witten from the Cowboys, but the team also drafted Alabama burner Henry Ruggs III at wide receiver.
The Raiders have just one playoff appearance since they lost to the Buccaneers in the 2003 Super Bowl, which was a first round Wild Card exit the season Carr was lost for the year.
Vegas’ OVER/UNDER for wins is 7.5, their odds to win the Super Bowl are 66-1, odds to win the AFC West are 11-1, and their odds to make the playoffs is 7/2.
