Doug Gottlieb: There is No 'WOW' Factor With Tua Tagovailoa

Doug Gottlieb: “I watched Tua Tagovailoa play and I didn’t see ‘high-90’s with late movement.’ I didn’t see him truck anybody, I didn’t see him juke anybody, and I didn’t see any ‘WOW’ throws. It doesn’t mean he’s going to be bad, but usually those special guys will give you a little taste of something special once or twice a game… I believe it is his team, but you watch last week and you’re like ‘OK, if THAT’S your quarterback, who is going to make plays for him, because it’s not going to be that guy.’ That’s what it felt like. The game plan they gave him versus the Rams was to just not lose it. There were no ‘WOW’ plays, and generally, those guys who are going to be stars, they give you that ‘WOW’ play every now and again.” (Full Video Above)

Listen to Doug Gottlieb explain why he doesn’t think that Tua Tagovailoa has the same ‘WOW’ factor that Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert have displayed as rookies, as Doug says that even Burrow or Herbert in their first NFL games displayed a few highlight reel plays that made you believe they were going to be special players.

Tagovailoa won his NFL debut, but posted a wretched 25.0 QBR score, going 12/22 for 93 yards, one touchdown, and one lost fumble.

Check out the video above as Gottlieb details why he’s worried that Tagovailoa may lack any one dominant skillset, either running or throwing, to pop in this league.
