Listen to Rich Eisen explain why he believes the NFL wants to avoid a ‘Week 18’ at all costs, as the league has always considered adding an extra week onto the end of the regular season as a way to makeup games that were completely abandoned because of potential COVID-19 outbursts.
Despite teams like the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens having their rosters pillaged because of players going on the COVID reserve list, and taking the field with practically zero chance to win, the league has insisted games be played as long as both teams can field enough players to stage an official game, regardless of whom those players actually are.
Just last Sunday the Broncos turned to a practice squad wide receiver to start at quarterback, and had to painfully watch Kendall Hinton finish with one completion and a 0.0 passer rating in four quarters while making an emergency start because of the team having lost its entire QB depth chart to the COVID.
Despite the playing field being laughably crooked for that game, and also in the upcoming Ravens/Steelers game that will see 13 Ravens, including Lamar Jackson, miss the game, the game will not be postponed to a ‘Week 18.’
Check out the video above as Rich explains why the NFL is doing everything in their power to avoid this contingency plan.
