Doug Gottlieb on Brian Flores Lawsuit: 'He'll Never Be a Head Coach Again'

Doug Gottlieb: “Brian Flores is never going to be a head coach ever again. The slash and burn is unbelievable. I thought he was a pretty good coach, clearly he didn’t get along with Chris Grier [Dolphins GM] – just so we’re aware, Chris Grier is Black. His owner was not, but the owner chose the general manager who he had worked with longer than the head coach. By all accounts, there were enough people in that organization that had a similar feeling in terms of their dealings with Brian Flores. But the ‘BURN IT DOWN’? First, it makes no sense, and there's a text where Bill Belichick mistakenly texted him instead of texting Brian Daboll, saying ‘I was only brought in for the Rooney Rule.’ Let’s keep in mind that Brian Flores already interviewed for the Jaguars job, as well as the Houston Texans job. This is amazing… He said Stephen Ross, the owner of the Dolphins offered to pay him $100,000 a loss in order to tank his first year. We ALL thought they were tanking, which they were ‘tanking for Tua.’ That is damning, but unless he has proof of that it’s hearsay...But everybody knew they were tanking. Does any of this prove racism is a part of hiring practices? It will probably make sure that Jacksonville and Houston hire Black coaches, but I would guess for Brian Flores, at least in the short term, no one is hiring him. Sue the NFL, good luck to you. Had a job for three years, interviewed for several jobs, finalist for a couple jobs, and this is what you do as a knee-jerk reaction because you’re mad? Of course Brian Daboll is the guy, they hired the assistant GM, guys bring with them people they worked with previously. It all makes sense. Flores was someone the owner John Mara wanted to take a look at. Just because you have somebody you want to hire, doesn’t mean you don't at least want to talk to Brian Flores and get his perspective on things. I understand that when you look at the numbers of people who were getting jobs in this most recent cycle, it hasn’t been nearly as good as it should be, but we should also point out that two Black GM’s have just been hired, and those numbers continue to grow… Just saying it’s ‘racist’ when there’s no…what is he talking about? The tanking one is probably the most damning thing. The texts from Bill Belichick, what did you expect to happen? When they hired the GM from Buffalo, Brian Daboll is the quarterback whisperer, and Josh Allen looks completely different the last two years, of course, he’s going to get a job, why shouldn’t he get a job?... This is an awful look for Brian Flores.” (Full Audio Above)

Listen to Doug Gottlieb discuss Tuesday’s breaking news of former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores filing a class-action lawsuit against the NFL and the New York Giants, accusing both of racist hiring practices, and detail why he thinks Flores’ ‘knee-jerk reaction’ of suing the league for racism could potentially damage his candidacy at becoming a head coach again.

The 40-year-old Flores released text messages on Tuesday from his former Patriots boss Bill Belichick, congratulating Flores on being named the Giants head coach. The only problem was that Flores hadn't even been to his scheduled interview with New York yet, with Belichick later admitting that he accidentally texted Flores believing it was former Bills OC Brian Daboll, essentially showing that Flores' interview with the Giants was going to be after they had already picked Daboll.

Flores also alleged that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross offered to pay Flores $100,000 per Dolphins loss during the 2019 season in hopes of Miami bettering their draft position in a 2020 QB class that would include Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, and Tua Tagovailoa.

Check out the audio above as Gottlieb details why he believes the leaks Flores released are 'damning', but ones that don't prove that 'racism' played any part in his unemployment.
