Jason Smith: Draymond Green Has Played His Final Game as a Warrior

Jason Smith: “This needs to be a 20-game suspension. You tried to get his attention with five games for getting Rudy Gobert in a head lock, and a year after punching Jordan Poole at practice. This is as bad as it is. Long suspension for Draymond Green, Warriors are not playing well – the iso shots of Steph Curry chewing on his mouthpiece very upset are rampant, they’re going to be 10-13. Their starting five is not playing well right now – it's worse than Cade Cunningham and the Detroit Pistons. The second unit is playing pretty well and the second unit kept them in it tonight [Tuesday], led by Chris Paul. The Warriors are going to have lineup changes after tonight because a) Draymond is not going to play for awhile most likely, and b) they need to do something because what they’re doing is not working. The Warriors will play without Draymond over the course of the next 20-ish games and they’ll find some success -- ‘hey, this mix here is doing pretty well’, and as a result, when Draymond Green comes back he will be on a different NBA team. I can’t believe it’s gonna be ‘we’ve had it’ and he’s suddenly traded, they’re gonna look and see what they can do, they’re gonna let time die down a little bit as Draymond gets closer to returning, and then it will be time to turn the page and they trade Draymond Green away. Draymond has three years left on his deal. It’s too much money, it’s $22-$27 million a year, but there are some other teams in the NBA who will say ‘hey, Draymond needs a fresh start, he needs to play for a winning team and his frustrations won’t boil over.’ Not like the Warriors will get a lot back but there will be people interested, it’ll mainly be the salary relief that they get for trading Draymond. The odds are that Draymond has played his last game as a Golden State Warrior and he’s traded somewhere else. There will be teams who say ‘we feel like we’re a pretty good contending team but we need his fire to get us all the way through.’ Maybe a team like the Bucks, or ‘hey, Joel Embiid, how happy would you be if we got Draymond for the next year or two? Would you wanna stay with us?’ There’s going to be teams willing to take a chance, it’s not like you’re paying him $50-$60 million a year. He needs to go to a team where his leadership qualities can fit in, and where he can still be himself but they need his ‘edge’ to win a championship." (Full Audio Above)

Listen to Jason Smith of Fox Sports Radio’s The Jason Smith Show discuss why he thinks Golden State Warriors enforcer Draymond Green has played his final game as a Warrior after Green’s ejection on Tuesday night following an ugly incident where Green flailed his arm during a box-out with Suns center Jusuf Nurkic that appeared to look like a coordinated punch that struck Nurkic directly in the face.

Green was immediately ejected from the game and will likely face his second extended suspension from the league less than a month after he was suspended five games for putting Rudy Gobert in a chokehold during a large scrum with Minnesota Timberwolves players.

Check out the segment above as Smith details why he thinks the slumping 10-13 Warriors will take the time to evaluate Green’s future with the team during his lengthy absence, and finally move on from the decorated enforcer who has become more of a pariah the last few years as the former Warriors ‘Big 3’ alongside Steph Curry and Klay Thompson continues to become less imposing.
