Rob Parker: “I don’t want people to think I’m being mean to Bronny James but it’s been a rough go so far in the NBA preseason. [four games, 2/16 from the field, 0/7 from three, 4 points, 5 turnovers, -40 plus/minus]. I’ve seen some former players sitting on the couch blaming the media and ‘HOW ARE YOU CRITICIZING A KID??’... He’s in the NBA now, he signed a pro contract. And ‘I DON’T UNDERSTAND, THEY MAKE A BIG FUSS OVER A GUY WHO WAS THE 55TH PICK!’... But they’re doing a segment on the guy who is the 55th pick, let’s not act like he’s any old body; he’s LeBron James’ son. He’s not in Charlotte where his dad was a mechanic and nobody knows who he is. Stop it, this is LeBron James’ kid. Let’s not be dumb and act like the media is overdoing it. It’s a BIG story.
Just looking at how he looks, looking at the stats, looking at what’s going on -- Bronny James is Jeremy Lin without the epic two weeks. That’s how big the hype was for Jeremy Lin. Jeremy Lin was on the Sports Illustrated cover back-to-back weeks and then he disappeared. He has not lived up to the hype, not one ounce.
He had a chance to silence everybody and all the critics if he played decent. Not ‘star’, play decent, and then you could go ‘he’s playing like the 55th pick in the NBA Draft’... But that’s not what he looks like, and that’s what is giving people the ammo to be able to put a target on this kid’s back. I feel bad for him because I think it’s added pressure because of his dad and because people don’t believe he belongs there. Then to get off to such a bad start? Plus/minus of –40, can’t make a shot, you’re not doing the stuff that people we’re giving you credit for, and you look lost out there. And this is not coming from Rob Parker, the sportswriter for 40 years, go look at the GMs and the scouts – this is their business, and they’re the ones saying this kid is not ready and he should be in the G-League.
I’m not even talking about being a star. He does not look like he should be in the NBA, and that’s where all the critics came from saying this was orchestrated, and ‘SHAME ON THE LAKERS’... This is an all-time great franchise; they don’t need this. The Lakers don’t need to sell tickets, there’s no empty seats at Crypto.com Arena. They sold out when Smush Parker was playing.
He could have changed the narrative by just being a decent player and instead it’s the absolute worst scenario. Now people are going to be jeering him. Is it time to admit Bronny is just Jeremy Lin without the epic two week run?”
Watch Rob Parker of Fox Sports Radio’s The Odd Couple call out Lakers rookie Bronny James as the next ‘Jeremy Lin without the epic two-week run’, as Parker says Bronny might be the most undeservedly over-hyped player in league history.
Check out the segment above as Parker says he feels sorry that the media had to simp for LeBron James to shamelessly elevate his son even though they all knew that Bronny should have been entering his sophomore season at USC.
