NBA is Reportedly Considering World Cup Postseason Format With 'Group Play'

Listen to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer join The Herd with Colin Cowherd to discuss the NBA reportedly considering a new playoff format that would replicate the same tournament layout as the FIFA World Cup.

The league would have a ‘Group Stage’ with the top 20 teams in the NBA being put into four different groups of five teams. The top two teams from each group would then advance to the next round exactly like the World Cup.

This news comes days after the league was reportedly considering having a #1 vs. #16 type tournament format that would remove conference alignment.

NBA insider Ric Bucher said on Monday that the league has already decided that they will indeed resume the season without any cancelation, and that the decision will go public in the coming days.

Check out the video above as both O’Connor and Cowherd are big fans of the fascinating proposal.
