Listen to NFL Vegas sharps RJ Bell and Steve Fezzik join Jonas Knox on ‘Straight Outta Vegas’ to preview the 16th ranked team on their 2020 win/total prediction rankings, the Indianapolis Colts.
Nearing the one-year anniversary of the shocking and unprecedented Andrew Luck retirement on August 24th, 2019, the Colts finally seem to have some quarterback clarity with the arrival of distinguished Hall of Fame candidate Philip Rivers, albeit the 38-year-old version who was worn down by a doleful Chargers demise.
Despite Rivers ranking second in the NFL in interceptions last year with 20, Rivers did pile up passing yards on a potent Chargers offense in 2019, ranking 4th in the league in yards, and 10th in passer rating.
Rivers will replace the consistently mediocre Jacoby Brissett, who impressively only threw 6 interceptions all last season, but also threw just 18 touchdowns in 15 games, and didn’t even hit the 3,000-yard plateau.
Brisset didn’t throw a touchdown in seven games last season, including the final three, and threw for under 200 yards in 9 of those 15 starts.
Rivers will join a Colts offense anchored by star wide receiver TY Hilton, as well as 1,000-yard rusher Marlon Mack, and Pro Bowl tight end Jack Doyle.
In the offseason the Colts traded for defensive tackle DeForest Buckner from the 49ers, signed the aforementioned Rivers, defensive tackle Sheldon Day from the 49ers, cornerback Xavier Rhodes from the Vikings, and cornerback TJ Carrie from the Browns, and most notably drafted former Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor in the second round after burning their first round pick in the Buckner trade.
Their notable losses included Pierre Desir, Eric Ebron, Jabaal Sheard, and Clayton Geathers.
Indy's OVER/UNDER win total for 2020 is 9, their odds to win the Super Bowl are 25/1, 12/1 to win the AFC, 11/10 to win the AFC South, and -150 to make the playoffs.
