NFL Takes Over Redskins Sexual Harassment Probe After New Allegations Leak

The National Football League has taken over the investigation into alleged instances of sexual harassment within the Washington Football Team. After a Washington Post report detailed numerous alleged instances of sexual harassment within the organization, the team hired attorney Beth Wilkinson to conduct a third-party investigation into the allegations.

The decision to hand the investigation over to the NFL comes less than one week after a second story from the Washington Post, which described even more allegations from women who worked for the organization. The Post has spoken with 40 women who were willing to discuss the allegations of sexual harassment.

Dan Snyder, the owner of the Washington Football Team, issued a statement saying it was his idea to have the league oversee the investigation.

"Recently, The Washington Football Team launched an independent third-party investigation into allegations about our culture and incidents of harassment. In conversations with Commissioner Goodell, Tanya and I suggested that the NFL assume full oversight of the investigation so that the results are thorough, complete and trusted by the fans, the players, our employees and the public," Snyder said. "I appreciate Commissioner Goodell agreeing to our suggestion and the entire Washington Football Team remains committed to fully cooperating with all aspects of the investigation."
