Listen to NFL Vegas sharps RJ Bell and Steve Fezzik join co-host Jonas Knox on ‘Straight Outta Vegas’ to preview the 6th ranked team on their 2020 win/total prediction rankings, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Whether it was Ben Roethlisberger missing 14 games with a season-ending elbow injury, Mason Rudolph nearly being decapitated with his own helmet by Myles Garrett, or a guy by the name of ‘Duck’ making 6 starts at quarterback, it was certainly one of the most forgettable seasons in Steelers history.
However, the Steelers were one of the league’s biggest surprises given their quarterback malfeasance, as the team shockingly finished .500 despite ranking 31st in passing yards in 2019.
They scored 10 points-or-fewer in 5 games last season, tied for the most with Washington, and joined the Jets as the only two teams in the league who ranked in the bottom five in the league in both passing and rushing offense.
Their defense was arguably the best in the league, however, leading the league in sacks and takeaways, finishing second in interceptions, ranking 5th in scoring defense, 5th in total defense, and 3rd in passing defense.
JJ Watt’s little brother, TJ, has emerged as one of the NFL’s best defenders, leading the league in forced fumbles the last two years, and ranking second in sacks in that same time frame with 27.5.
Pittsburgh’s key additions this offseason were tight end Eric Ebron from the Colts, full back Derek Watt from the Chargers, offensive lineman Stefen Wisniewski from the Chiefs, and defensive tackle Chris Wormley from the Ravens.
Key losses included Nick Vannett, Javon Hargrave, Mark Barron, Anthony Chickillo, Artie Burns, and Sean Davis.
Their over/under for wins is 9.5, their odds to win the Super Bowl are 25/1, their odds to win the AFC are 12/1, their odds to win the AFC North are 3/1, and they’re -134 to make the playoffs.
