Stick a Fork in Tua Tagovailoa's NFL MVP Candidacy

Jason McIntyre: “Everyone saw the opening play of the game— a seam route to Trent Sherfeild and he takes it the distance, 75 yards, on the first play from scrimmage. Everybody was like ‘TUA! MVP!’ He did jack squat for the next two quarters, I mean absolutely nothing. Throws were off, I mean, we’re talking about basic throws. There was a moment in the third quarter after his second interception, Tua spent some time on the sideline with Teddy Bridgewater, Tyreek Hill, then Darrell Bevell, then Mike McDaniel came over, then Terron Armstead had a few words of encouragement. I’m thinking like, here is an ‘MVP candidate’ who’s having one bad game, and EVERYBODY’S gotta come over and pump him up?? It reminded of the movie ‘Swingers’ where Mikey gets dumped by his girlfriend and he’s got all his friends just relentlessly pumping him up, and they have to keep doing this because he’s so down in the dumps… I wonder if there still is some deep scarring from what happened the last two years. Remember, getting pulled for Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Brian Flores stuff. Tua has been riding high, and he’s been great when they look awesome. As soon as they look bad, Nick Bosa is getting three sacks, five quarterback pressures… On third down, known as ‘winning time’, Tua was 0 for 7. You can just kiss his MVP candidacy goodbye.” (Full Segment Above)

Listen to Jason McIntyre of Fox Sports Radio explain why he thinks Tua Tagovailoa’s MVP candidacy came to a crashing end in Week 13 after Tagovailoa laid an egg in a blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Check out the segment above as McIntyre fears that Tagovailoa may still have deep-seated wounds going back to the Brian Flores era in Miami where Tua was routinely yanked for Ryan Fitzpatrick when he had stretches of poor play.
