Colin Cowherd on Odell Beckham Jr. Deal With Ravens: 'It Feels Desperate'

Colin Cowherd: “Odell Beckham signed a one-year deal, a lot of money, for $15 million guaranteed. I reached out to a couple different executives and said ‘what do you make of that contract?’ and it was a lot of ‘LOL’ and ‘WOW’. If this gets Lamar back to the table, and he [OBJ] gets Lamar happy and back to the Ravens for a year, it’s worth it. $15 million is about double what he’s worth. Nothing against OBJ, I love him as a number three receiver, but that’s paying him like a number one. He’s NOT a number one. Amari Cooper makes $20 million and gives you nine touchdowns, 75 catches, and is always available. Last year OBJ didn’t play a single game. It doesn’t feel like a long-term fit, it feels a little desperate, it feels like you basically gave Lamar a pre-Christmas present to get him back to the negotiating table, but the Ravens are in a tough spot, it’s a quarterback league, and they don’t have one. Lamar thinks he’s worth far more than the Ravens are paying him, and the market disagrees, and the Ravens disagree. In business, the market will dictate how ‘valuable’ you are, and there is no market for Lamar Jackson. Where he is really valuable is Baltimore, and sometimes that is your market. The noisiest teams in the offseason last year were the Packers, Broncos, and Cardinals, and they ALL had discouraging seasons, and the year before it was Miami and they missed the playoffs. The year before that it was Dallas with the Zeke stuff. ‘NOISE’ usually equals disappointment, and I do think a little less of the Ravens today. They make the Cowboys these days feel like a monastery. They are noisy every day of the week. This [Odell Beckham Jr.] is like a present that doesn’t solve the issues in the organization. For the short term this works, but in Week 6 would you be surprised if OBJ is hurt, Lamar is unhappy, he’s got a new contract, and the Ravens are stuck at .500.” (Full Segment Above)
