Colin Cowherd: Why the Celtics Need to Get Rid of Jaylen Brown ASAP

Colin Cowherd: “Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are now eligible for the $613 million super-max contract. When I floated this trade idea [trading Jaylen Brown to Golden State for Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins] a lot of people pushed back. We know Jayson Tatum’s personality has been formed. He is much more Wiggins than Kobe or MJ. He’s not hyper-aggressive. Kobe, MJ, LeBron, Bird— AGGRESSIVE. Jayson Tatum is more Wiggins, he doesn’t grab the game late. Jaylen Brown’s personality is more Kobe and MJ but he’s a number 2, so this thing [with Tatum] doesn’t work that well. This has to be strictly a results-oriented decision. In the NBA, tandems win titles. Shaq and Kobe did not get along but they won titles. Stockton and Malone did get along, didn’t win titles, but I’m still comfortable paying whatever it takes because the tandem works. If the tandem doesn’t work I need proof. I needed a title last year or this year, or I’m moving off it, and I’m keeping Tatum. The Celtics are not Sacramento, they wanna get titles. They’ve got a tandem but because of the personalities, it’s not that they don’t like each other, it’s just they don’t fit that well. They win a lot of games but if they get bounced by Philadelphia, what am I paying for? Once you pay $613 million there’s going to be all sorts of limitations elsewhere. If the tandem worked, I would not need titles. De’Aaron Fox and Sabonis works, Pippen and Barkley did NOT work. I have a hard time paying $613 million if I can’t even get back to the Finals back-to-back years. This has to strictly be a business-results decision. This thing doesn’t look like it works to me.” (Full Segment Above)
