We all saw it this weekend. Lonzo Ball sold out arenas in Las Vegas for the Summer League, had the crowd on their feet from the very first play, and posted a triple-double against the Boston Celtics.
The buzz is real, and it is due to the attractive and polarizing style of the young Los Angeles Lakers Point Guard. He has a chance to be really special, and the timing and circumstances are lining up perfectly.
Colin Cowherd explains the qualities, first, that Lonzo possesses. Take a listen to this :20 clip of his explanation of Lonzo's features and attributes, then keep scrolling:
There have been players in the league that have had the type of ability that Lonzo Ball has. There is no mistake about that. He is not a generational talent who can change the culture of an entire league, he is not a transcendent shooter who will put up 50 on any given night, and he really isn't the guy who will be dunking on defenders to make it big on Twitter.
He is just a really smart player, who makes great passes, and is in a big enough spotlight for that to get noticed. If he was averaging 11 assists a night in Orlando he would be just another good basketball player. If he averages 11 a night in LA, he will be a superstar in this league.
Colin Cowherd explains that in the audio right here:
